MAXIMUM RNR :
MAXIMUM RNR

I've been waiting for this disc for a long time, it must be three years at least, something messy, hard, arrogant, simplistic, abrasive, and in your freakin' face. I've been waiting for a new Rock n' Roll band to kick the collective asses of all these so-called "Punk" bands on Much music and MTV. Someone to lay waste to all the new soft-ass "Garage Punk" bands that are the darlings of music media whore-rags such as "Rolling Stone" and "Spin". God I hate those magazines! I am proud as hell to let you know that the band "Maximum RNR" is here to save us all from commercialized, watered-down, musical hell, and they hail from my stomping grounds of Toronto Canada. When I first put this disc in the ol' CD spinner (which is a combo of two previous 7"s plus two new tracks), and heard the first few bars of "Stormfront", I got the same tingle in my balls that I got the first time I played the Hellacopters' classic debut disc "Supershitty To The Max". You read that right, this six-song EP is that f*cking good. The riffs, and song structures are simplistic, and hit like a brick, the attitude, and energy just leaps from your speakers. You could compare them to many that have come before, but for the record, it's a combo of the before mentioned Hellacopters, plus; Zeke, Nashville Pussy, The Hookers, Brothers Of Conquest, The Dwarves, AC/DC, The Dictators, Gluecifer, The Stooges, The Candysnatchers, Circus Of Power, and Alexisonfire all rolled into one nasty, dirty band. The players (Louie Durand - vocals, Mike Sydney - bass, Mike Childs - drums, Keith Carman - guitar, and Keith Maurik - guitar) all look like greasy bikers, and outcasts from proper society, which of course are the only sort of people that should be attempting this type of music. If you like loud, obnoxious, fight-inducing music, full of edgy riffs, (and who the hell doesn't?) then this is for you. For more info on these crazy mo-fos, check out maximumrnr.com.

MAXIMUM RNR :
HORNS UP

Holy tap-dancing, crack-smoking, finger-fuckin' Christ! I mean wow, I'm almost at a loss for words. This short CD EP is totally, and unequivocally in-freakin-sane. I'm talkin' way, way over the top. If you can spare eight and a half minutes out of your boring-ass daily routine, Maximum RNR would like to annihilate your eardrums, and jumpstart your renewed passion for good ol' Rock n' Roll! A while back (1997 to be precise) the boys in the Hellacopters and Gluecifer got together and told you to "Respect The Rock", well with the release of “Horns Up”, not only will you respect it, Maximum RNR are gonna make you get down on your knees and worship at it’s filthy, beer-soaked feet! We have six tracks here that range in length from a mere ten seconds (yes 10) to a whopping 2:21! Needles to say, these revved-up ditties whip by in a blur, like some anonymous sonic, drive-by shooting. Just as the last musical shell-casing drops to the floor, the whole thing starts all over again, because the band has gone and repeated all six tracks on here another 7 times! So what started as a brief drive-by, now seems like an all out, never-ending gang war! If you haven't figured it out by now, I love this disc (and this band). Why these guys haven't blown up in the scene all fuckin' "Triple-X" style is a mystery, as they could easily mop the floor with and contemporary act you'd care to mention. Man, when you're spinning this, you can almost smell the aromatic aromas of stale beer, sweat, and leather that forever seem to emanate from that grimy stage at your local watering hole. This is how it's done people. All hail the rock gods for delivering on to us this irreverent, frenzied musical bounty. ...I'm not sure, but I think this disc might have made my dick move....
